Dental Care in the New Year

Dental Care in the New Year

Happy New Year! Have you made a New Year’s resolution to look after your teeth? We can help! Austell Dental Associates has been making smiles brighter for over 50 years. There is no better time than now to begin working towards looking after your teeth.

Making Dental Care Resolutions

1. Put an end to your bad habits.

Even though the holidays are over, winter is still here to stay for the next couple of months. Everyone is starting over fresh, and this includes having better dental health. Think about quitting bad habits, such as smoking, which will already have a dramatic and positive effect on your overall health.

2. Floss more and floss regularly.

Also, flossing is more important now than ever. Have you ever wondered how dentists can always tell when you have not regularly been flossing? There was once a story of a patient who recounted the time that she flossed and brushed thoroughly before coming in for her appointment. The dentist was able to tell almost instantly that she was not flossing regularly.

The largest indicator of irregular flossing is inflammation and bleeding of the gums. Flossing removes the plaque in those hard-to-reach places. After a while, the plaque can accumulate, and gingivitis may develop. This is what causes the bleeding and the inflammation.

3. Don’t forget to brush twice a day.

Perhaps this goes without saying that brushing is essential to your dental health. Are you brushing at least twice a day, however? It can be easy to forget to do this, especially at night when you are tired and just want to hit the hay. Create a schedule for yourself and set reminders to brush at the same time each day. After a few weeks of doing this, it becomes second nature.

4. Keep on smiling.

Many of us do not smile because we feel shy about how our teeth look. Sometimes, we also simply forget to do it. However, you should continue smiling. You may notice your confidence skyrocket and that, in turn, may be infectious and do the same for others. Everyone loves to see a smile, so go ahead and do it!

One final note—we cannot stress enough the importance of making regularly scheduled appointments. Austell Dental Associates recommends twice yearly checkups and teeth cleaning to maintain optimum oral health. Feel free to give us a call at (770) 676-1230 to make an appointment. We serve Austell, Douglasville, Marietta, Smyrna, Powder Springs, and the surrounding communities.
