How to Find a Dentist When You Are New to Town

Moving to a new area, town, city, or county shakes up everything in your life, from where you get your groceries to where you get your teeth cleaned. Indeed, most people only realize well after moving that they are in need of a new, trustworthy dentist. What should you do to find one in your new hometown?

Here are a few basics tips and hints for choosing a new dentist after a move:

  • Ask locals: Everybody has the dentist they consider the “best” in the area. The fastest way to find a new dentist candidate is asking your new neighbors, community members, and coworkers where they go for basic procedures and special cosmetic treatments.
  • Look for experience: Nothing improves a dentist’s abilities and knowledgeability more than real world experience. Try to find a dentist office that has been open at the same location for many years and that is headed by a dentist of many years of experience. You know they are doing things right if they can stay in business for a long while, as many dentistry clinics close their doors only a couple years after opening.
  • Family’s age: Specialized dentist offices are gaining in popularity in recent years, which means a dentist only completes certain dentistry procedures. This is not usually conducive for family dentistry that calls for all sorts of treatments, including routine cleanings. If you have children, make certain you choose a dentist who can be the dental doctor for your whole family.
  • Second opinions: Sometimes the best way to choose a new dentist is by asking them what they think of the work of your previous dentist. A dentist who offers second opinions can provide you with valuable insight and help you reach your decision easier.
